WHAT WE DO

We are a service club of volunteers dedicated to serving the needs of the Edmonton Community

The Edmonton Host Lions Club is the original service club in the Edmonton area. It was chartered on June 14, 1929. Our objective is to help local community groups and individuals in times of need. We achieve this goal by fund raising in and around the community throughout the year

LIONS RECYCLE FOR SIGHT

We collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids for refurbishing to supply those in need throughout our world.

Throughout the year, Lions, Leos and other volunteers collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers (CLERC) .
LERC volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in low and middle income communities around the world where they will have the greatest impact.

LIONS INNER CITY SCHOOL FIELDTRIP PROGRAM

Each year the Edmonton Host Lions Club supports field trips for inner-city schools to places such as the Telus World of Science.

To date, the Edmonton Host Lions Club has sponsored over 20,000 inner city or disadvantaged students.

INNER CITY LUNCHES

Homelessness and Hunger - not issues that Edmontonians are proud of, but realities that face some of our citizens.

Edmonton Host Lions in the past has partnered with the Sacred Heart Parish in Edmonton's inner city to provide hot meals for any persons in need. This project has grown to include partnering with the Edmonton City of Champions Lions Club, the Boyle and McCauley Community Leagues and Remand Center. When a fire struck the church, we switched to serving meals using the Alberta Avenue Community League Hall.

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.

Lions Care Kits

Since September 2020, the Edmonton Host Lions Club has been creating and handing out Lions Care Kits to those in need.

Items in the kit change according to the cost and seasonally.  Kits can include masks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, washcloths, soap, combs, shampoo, dental floss or other items a person might need.

During the winter months, the club has also collected and handed out hundreds of items of cold-weather clothing.
