Did you know that the Edmonton Host Lions Club raised funds to purchase the first pediatric operation suite for the Stollery Hospital a few years ago? The club raised $300,000.00 to buy all the specialized equipment needed. Prior to that surgeons had to use equipment designed for adults.

The club built Lions Seniors Recreational Center turning the operation of it over to the city.

Our Club has a goal of raising $50,000 over the next 3 years to support Lions efforts regarding diabetes. One of Lions Clubs International Service pillars is Diabetes.

The funds raised will be used to fund Diabetes research grants, diabetes camps, and community service grants for organizations such as hospitals and clinics.

We work with and financially support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Stollery Children’s Hospital. At the Stollery, for example, we fund diabetes supplies for low-income families.

Lions fund two vans, one for northern Alberta and one for southern Alberta that makes it possible for nurse educators to travel the province providing diabetes education.

Lions Clubs from across Canada coordinate efforts with Diabetes Canada and Lions. Each province sends one representative to the Lions Advisory to Diabetes Canada.
